Oxford Township Historical Facts

Oxford didn’t start off with a great reputation. After a survey was conducted in 1812, the area was considered a swamp land where little if anything of value would grow. Considered not a worthy investment, Oxford remained unsettled for quite some time until a settler and fur trader decided to call it home. It then steadily began to grow and in 1839, Oxford became the legal name of the area. Railroad construction helped drive the economy and bring more residents to this community and more commerce was established.
Oxford was home to Brace Beemer whose voice became famous all over the nation as he was known as the Lone Ranger.
