Troy Historical Facts

The first land purchase in Troy dates back to 1819, and at the time was just a settlement known as Troy Corners. Within four years, however, the first public school opened.

Neighboring cities like Clawson, Royal Oak and Birmingham were incorporating some of its land as their cities were growing, so in 1955 Troy incorporated as the City of Troy to prevent it from happening further. In 1966 I-75 was completed, which gave a huge boost to Troy's economy and gave its citizens a direct path to Downtown Detroit.

From this point on, Troy began to grow exponentially. It was because of the I-75 freeway that Troy became what it is today.
