Northville is considered a higher-end real estate market in Western Wayne County, with a large middle class, and the highest property values among its neighbors. Housing in the city tends to be newer construction, with as much as 80% of the homes in the township having been built more recently than 1970 and more than half since 1980.

The Northville Parks & Recreation Department manages two facilities filled with an abundance of indoor activities, planned in conjunction with Northville Public Schools. The Recreation Center at Hillside, located at 700 W Baseline, provides access to an indoor swimming pool, two gymnasiums, multi-purpose classrooms, and fitness rooms. In addition to all of these neighborhood recreational activities, the Northville Community Center, located at 303 W Main Street, introduced meeting rooms, a large gymnasium, stage and bleachers, and kitchen facilities. The department operates five Northville district community park facilities, including Ford Field, Fish Hatchery Park, Henningsen Park, Northville Community Park, and the newest facility, Millennium Park.

Residents throughout the state of Michigan look forward to the annual Victorian Festival in Northville, an annual celebration of the town's unique heritage. There is no automobile traffic during this time, as locals, artists, and shop owners transform the downtown area into a Victorian Village complete with era costumes, and free horse and carriage rides. It would be hard not to enjoy the Northville shopping district, walking from boutique to boutique. Northville School Information

Northville School District is among the highest-rated public school districts in Metro Detroit. Northville community students consistently score higher than the national average on the Michigan Education Assessment Program (MEAP) tests. More than 95 percent of the students in the district go to college.

Over 7,000 young residents in Northville attend school. There are 6 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and 1 high school (Go Mustangs!). In 2011, Northville High School was ranked 227th in the entire country and 5th in the state of Michigan.

Meadowbrook Country Club
is a private 18-hole course with an older, traditional design.

Northville Hills Golf Club
is a championship, semi-private, 18-hole course, part of a master-planned golf community featuring magnificent fairway homes, estate homes, and villas. It has enormous greens, and its fairways are lined with mature trees. Natural wetland areas and lakes dot the course.

Salem Hills Golf Club
is a public 18-hole course, built on flat terrain with large undulating greens


Northville Historical Facts

Although settled in 1825, it took a while for the city of Northville to come into its own. It was originally one of two communities within Plymouth Township (Plymouth is its next door neighbor these days), until 1898 when it became its own village.

Northville has been home to many prominent businesses throughout the year. Globe Furniture Factory thrived in the community during the mid-19th century, and Henry Ford had his Valve Plant located in Northville during the 1920s and 1930s.

Many of Northville's early residents have street names throughout town! These include Rufus Thayer Jr. (Thayer Boulevard), Joseph Yerkes (Yerkes Street), Daniel & Samuel Cady (Cady Street), William Dunlap (Dunlap Street), as well as many other settlers.

Finally, Northville Downs is where Joe Louis trained for a while in 1939.
